Effects of group play therapy program on other¡¯s perspective-taking ability

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine effects of group play therapy program on others¡¯ perspective-taking ability To answer these questions, out of children referred to the group play therapy room of D university located in Daegu, three who were reported by their parents as having difficulty in peer relations and who were 3 or below in score obtained using Peer Relations Scale with self-report based were selected and grouped into one. These three children were in their 3rd or 4th grades of elementary school. others¡¯ perspective-taking program was applied to the group for 10 sessions over total 5 weeks, based on 2 sessions in a week, and 90 minutes per session. Before the program application and after 4, 7 and 10 sessions of the program, interviews of the three children on face-to-face basis were carried out, tape-recorded, and evaluated using perspective -taking measurement device. A 20 minutes¡¯ free play by each of the threes was video-taped and evaluated by the researcher and other 2 observers with behavior observation ratings. Results of the study are as below. First, children showed improvement in their ability of perspective-taking through participation in others¡¯ perspective-taking program. Second, children showed increase in their prosocial behaviors through participation in others¡¯ perspective-taking program. In conclusion, children who are trained with others¡¯ perspective-taking program via group activities would show improvement in their perspective-taking ability and increase in their prosocial behaviors.
